As the founder and leader of StandbyU, Chris Boyle has found leadership both rewarding and, at times, lonely. His mentor Rebecca gave him a safe space to explore ideas, vent, test his judgement and think about what matters most.
Across more than three years of mentoring, Rebecca has encouraged Chris to trust his instincts, understand his audience and pause to celebrate successes. Their conversations have also helped him see that bringing people along is as important as knowing where he wants to go.
Chris says Rebecca has strengthened his confidence without asking him to lose his authenticity or sight of why he started StandbyU. Her influence reaches beyond their mentoring sessions: he sees it in his decisions, his communication and the way he leads his team.
“I never realised how much I needed a mentor until I had one,” he says.
